POTD: SIG Sauer M18 at National Police Week

Welcome to TFB’s Photo Of The Day! Today we take a look at pictures from the National Police Week at Kadena Air Base, Japan, from May 16, 2023. Above you see one of the 18th Security Forces Squadron defenders, as he fires an M18 handgun during a shooting competition.

Police Week is a way to recognize the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement members, paying special tribute to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Senior Airman Nikolas Somoza, 18th Security Forces Squadron military working dog handler, and his canine, Beni, participate in an MWD demo.

MWD’s are trained to act as a lone defender’s partner during patrol, and are able to assist with suspect apprehension as well as other duties such as detection of explosives or narcotics.
