Geert Wilders has won a massive victory in an election, positioning him to form the next ruling party and potentially become Netherland’s next prime minister.

Wilders, 60, has long been likened to the “Dutch Donald Trump,” for his brand of populist politics. But unlike the former U.S., he seemed destined to a lifetime in the opposition.

An exit poll revealing his landslide appeared to take Wilders by surprise.

A sensational upset has taken place in the Netherlands, as Geert Wilder’s patriotic Freedom Party leads the race with 35 seats out of 150 seats in the Second Chamber of Parliament.

He posted a video showing his stunned exhilaration, exclaiming, “Thirty-five!”

Geert Wilders came to America during President Trump’s first campaign in 2016.

The Green Left aliance came in second at 26 seats. The currently ruling People’s Party VVD plummeted to 23 seats, the New Social Contract (NSC) party came out of nowhere to 20 seats. The farmer’s party BBB, which led local elections in spring, only took 7 seats.

The RINO ruling coalition consisting of VVD, D66, CDA and Christian Union, lost a total of 37 and will together receive no more than 41 seats, according to Ipsos.

De Telegraaf wrote:

The Freedom Party PVV can no longer be ignored after its “mega victory” in the House of Representatives elections, according to party leader Geert Wilders.

It would be “very undemocratic” if that happened, “the voter would not accept that,” he warns.

Wilders called on other parties to work together and “get over their own shadows”.

Wilders wants to find solutions, “but within the framework of the law and the constitution.”

The PVV leader, who has been excluded as a coalition partner by many parties, is determined: “We are going to govern”.

If Wilders becomes Prime Minister, he will be for all Dutch people, he repeats.

“Regardless of where you come from, and what your faith is.” Wilders wants people to “have more money in their wallets”.

He also wants “care and safety back in order”. Naturally, he also wants to restrict immigration, one of the spearheads of his party.

He is not sure whether he will be able to implement all his PVV plans. “But it won’t be our fault.”
